Testing for Protein- the Biuret Test- Science


Testing for Protein- The Biuret Test

Aim: To test if a sample of food contains protein.
Equipment: Test tube, sodium hydroxide ( NaOH ), copper sulfate ( CuSO4 ), food sample.

Result: If the solution remains blue, then no protein is present. If the solution changes to a purple color then protein is present in the sample.



Method: 
1.) Place about 2mL of the sample into test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.
2.) Add 5 drops of copper sulfate
3.) Shake the test tube gently side to side

Result:
egg: went from white to light blue to purple because it shows protein.
milk: went from white to light blue to light purple because it shows protein.

Conclusion: 
 The egg changes to purple and the milk changes to light purple because it shows protein. The reason why the milk changes to light purple because of the milk.

2. Heat with a bunsen burner until it changes color.

1.)  Place about 2mL of the sample into test tube 
2.) add 305 drops of iodine and mix

Wonder

Wonder Work Part 4
  1. Part 4 starts with the quote "Now here is my secret. It is very simple. It is only with one's heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye." What does it mean? It means that what on the outside is important but whats on the inside is even more important.
  2. What was Jack's initial reaction to Mr Tushman's request to show August around school? What made Jack decide to say 'yes' to Mr Tushman’s request? His mom said it if you do it will be a really kind and caring thing to do.
  3. Friendship can be difficult. How does Jack feel about him and August becoming Ex-friends? How does he feel when he finds out why? Guilty and sad, when he finds out he feels even more guilty and sorry.
  4. How was Jack provoked to punch Julian in the face? Explain why you think this was the right/wrong thing to do? Because he said
  5. How did reading Jack's point of view change your perception of his character?
  6. Predict how you think Auggie will react to the news that Jack punched Julian. What effect will it have own their friendship?

3.)I think Jack feels bad because August and Jack were actually really good friends and they had the same interests and would get along just fine. Personally, Jack tries to ignore the feelings for August and move on but I think he still wants to be friends with August.

4.)What provoked him to punch Julian was him saying stuff about his disease, that he has no friends and what Julian would do if he looked like August. I think Jack had enough and cared that much about August that he punched him in the face.

5.) I saw that he was really wanting to be friends with August and that even though they weren't talking Jack was still missing August as a friend. So yes it did change my perception.  
6.)Hearing this August will be shocked and satisfied because I know August hates Julian. This is a good effect on their relationship because August will realize that Jack might not be as bad as he thinks and they probably will become friends again.
